Deciding on alternative heat sources for your home

As natural gas prices rise, people all around the world are looking to save on their heating bills throughout the winter months. It can be hard to comprehend how much your bill is month to month, especially if you have had the same living situation for a number of years and have seen the rise in your payments.
The best alternative heating source I have found in the fight against the gas bills, is the use of space heaters. These lovely little devices allow you to use electricity to heat your home at a cost far less than gas would be. There are however a few catches to using this strategy.

Most space heaters are only going to heat one room in your house. This means that you need to either have multiple heaters for your home, or use a seperate heater for each room. The other catch is that you will not want to leave an electric heating unit plugged in while you are not at home or while you can not keep an eye on it. Many people put off electric heaters, claiming they are a great fire hazard. This is a myth. They are only a fire hazard if not used properly. You need to make sure there is nothing within 3 feet of the heater in any direction. This will assure you that no item in your home gets hot enough to cause a potential hazard. You also need to be assured that the electrical outlet you are using to operate your heater is in good working order. If you make sure to follow these few simple steps, a fire hazard will not be a problem for you and your family.
1. Be sure electrical outlet is in good working order.
2. Keep all objects more than 3 feet away from any part of the electrical heater.
3. Never leave your electrical heater unattended
There are many types of heaters on the market today. You can choose to have a radiant heater that just emits heat from coils that heat up inside the heaters frame. These heaters work well for small spaces such as a bathroom in your home. These heaters however, will not heat up the larger rooms in your home as well as other types of heaters on the market today.
Your best bet to heat up your home efficiently would be a heater that has a built in fan to disperse heat throughout your entire room. They use coils just as radiant heaters do, the difference is that a fan is used to blow the heated air out into your home. These fans allow the heat to circulate throughout the room you are trying to heat, thus heating the air much quicker than air that is not circulated by a radiant heater.
If you are wanting to lower your heating bills this winter season, purchase a few electrical heaters to place throughout your home and you will be comforted by both the warmth they provide and the money they save you over the season!
