Long-distance love: Celebrating Valentine's Day from afar

Many years ago now, my husband and I had a Valentines Day - long distance style. It was done with a great deal of thought and, allot of thought. I love to share this story with all those who are apart on this special day.

My husband had to leave our residence for work. He was about four hours away. It doesn't seem like much but, with small children at home - the trip to be together would have been impossible.

I received a package from him in the mail. It read, "Do not open till Valentines day."

I simply giggled and set it on the side - to await that day.

On Valentines morning, before the rush of children off to school and daily routine - I opened my package.

Inside was a beautiful card, a rose(fake of course), and - breakfast in bed, long distance style.

There were packets of sugar, both brown and white. The white for my 'instant coffee', also included. The brown was for my 'instant oatmeal'. There was a plastic bowl and spoons. He even included napkins! There was nothing missed nor over looked. It was perfectly packed and packaged.

The only thing I had to add to my Valentines breakfast was, hot water and the telephone. In this way, we were together - even while we were apart.

So if you and yours, are apart for the Valentines day celebration - go ahead, put some thought into it. I am sure you can think of some way to romance your loved one - long distance.
