The 1000-calorie diet explained

The 1000 calorie diet is a very simple premise really and isn't really even a specific diet as such. Simply by eating only this many calories per day you will lose weight, which sounds simple enough but isn't that easy to stick to because a lot of fast food meals will not contain at least this in a single sitting, and sometimes even more. Also this diet has been criticised in the past because it will leave some people feeling weak and tired, and can even cause you to faint under some conditions.

Following the diet is the idea that we should still have balance but that basically we should eat less then we are because the amounts most people eat these days, they aren't burning off and so are putting on weight. Following the 1000-calorie diet you will see the weight fall away fast, which is of course what most people want, but there are flaws with the system as there are with any diets.

Basically there are around 6000 calories per pound of actual weight, and so in theory every time we burn off an extra 6000 that isn't replaced by what we eat we lose a pound. So with the 1000-calorie diet if you usually eat your way through around 3000 calories per day, and then switch to 1000, you should lose weight very rapidly. Of course there are other factors to be considered that allow weight loss to take pace, for example being active and drinking plenty of water.

Water in fact is one of the best components that you can include in your diet for a number of reasons. Firstly it has no calories, and so you can have as much of it as you want, and also being properly hydrated in essential for exercising successfully and for losing fat. When fat stored in the body is converted into energy for the body to use, water is required to make the process happen. So keeping yourself hydrated is an essential part of the 1000-calorie diet.

Years ago when we were generally a lot more active than we are today, before the days of the Internet and 24 hour a day TV with hundreds of channels we were using up a lot more calories every day. Similarly a lot more people tended to have active jobs rather then office work where we are sitting down all day in front of a computer rather than doing anything strenuous. Today however most of us are burning up less energy than ever before, while the sugar and fat content of the food we are eating goes up, and more and more fast food is available to us without even leaving our arm chairs to get it.

This all being the case the previously recommended diet of roughly
