There are many aspects of your personal life that can affect your home business. Some are obvious, like the skills you possess or money you have to invest. Some are not so obvious, like your credit score.
Some try to live by the adage of if you pay cash for everything you don't need to worry about credit. In a perfect world, this might be the case. In today's world more and more things contribute to your credit score and more and more companies judge you by your credit score.
With a poor credit score, you might find it almost impossible to open even a business checking account or savings account. Most utilities now report to credit bureaus. Even if you pay for everything in cash, always paying on time will help you maintain a favorable credit rating.
Having a good credit rating will give your business the resources it needs to grow with you and thrive on it's own. Having a poor credit rating will make it much harder if not almost impossible to be successful at your home business. You'll have to rely on your own finances.
Depending on your credit rating, you might want to rethink what home business you might be better off trying to start. Rather than start one that will require a lot of start up money because of stock or equipment, you might want to opt for one that requires less. For instance, maybe you want a business dealing with animals. Rather than offer a boarding facility which would require having enough runs and kennels to safely board the animals in your care, you could start off petting sitting or walking pets. As you generate revenue, you can then venture into other areas and grow your business from there.
