SCOTT

ETYMOLOGY:
As you might expect, the name SCOTT denotes the owner's Scottish ancestry. Its original meaning is often said to be "painted warrior" from the Pictish practice of painting faces blue before battle.
ORIGIN & HISTORY:
SCOTT is a common surname both in Scotland and in the English-speaking world. Its adoption as a male Christian name appears to have originated in the twentieth century.
POPULARITY:
Unsurprisin gly, SCOTT is a favourite in Scotland and regularly appears in the top twenty names.
The name has also made an impact in countries with a history of Scottish settlement, perhaps thanks to new parents commemorating their Scottish roots. It regularly appears in the top hundred names for newborn boys in England, Ireland, Canada and Australia.
In the US, it enjoyed a brief vogue in the 1960s and 1970s, reaching number ten in the US Social Security Administration top 1000 baby names in 1971, before falling out of fashion in the 1990s.
Although the name is usually reserved for boys, it is occasionally given to girls.
FASCINATING FACTS:
Canadian actor, James Doolan, tried out a variety of accents for his Star Trek character, Chief Engineer Montgomery "Scotty" Scott, before deciding that the best engineers were Scottish.
Oddly enough, the catchphrase "Beam me up, Scotty" was never spoken in any episode or film.

Across the globe, proud, and perhaps homesick, settlers gave the name SCOTT to the places they lived in.
Many US states have towns and counties named SCOTT, including Maryland, Arkansas, Minnesota, Kansas, Louisiana, New York, Ohio, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Tennessee, Virginia and Pennsylvania.
Scott Island, a small, uninhabited Antarctic island, was named after Captain Scott, the famous polar explorer who perished in a race to the South Pole in 1912.
Scott also gives its name to a minor planet that orbits the sun, discovered by J Palisa of Vienna in 1917.
Meanwhile, The Scott Paper Company has taken the name into bathrooms around the world.
