Iowa Central; Does it measure up?
Today colleges all across the country are faced with the same problem as the now extinct dinosaurs. Adapt or die or at least be left behind. The Internet has opened up a whole new era for people who wished to go to college but for reasons of employment or family aren't able to attend a regular class.
Iowa Central, a small community college from somewhere in the farm country of the great state of Iowa, have jumped on the band wagon with countess other colleges now offering on line education. But does this small school really stand a chance of snatching a few crumbs away from some of the bigger dogs?
We'll find out as we compare some of these big, better financed and more advertised schools against the mighty blue. First, to be sure we are comparing apples to apples and not apples to oranges this evaluation will be comparing I.C against schools offering similar on line degrees.
The purpose of this evacuation is to see if the education we are laying our money down for is worth it based on; accreditation, programs offered, instructor participation(Instructor availability through phones numbers or e-mails accounts), and program term (how long it takes to complete the degree). And cost
Second, we must establish the difference between a respected institute of higher learning and a diploma mill.
Unfortunately with all the advantages of the Internet it has also opened up the flood gates for let's say not so honest "intuitions". These are colleges and universities only by name who offer the degree of your dreams the same day and will even go as fare to lie that you did attended their school.
What they aren't tell your potential employer is that your entire degree is based on "life experience". Not to take away from anyone' hard work, but I hardly think that cutting lawns for two summers qualifies you to earn a Bachelor degree in bio chemistry. The hardest thing is being able to spot the fraud from the real thing, many smart people have been taken for thousands of dollars by the schools with little or no recourse for getting there money back.
This brings us to the point of our evaluation. The schools that came closest to comparisons to Iowa Centrals associate degree in art's on line are. Kent State university of Ohio and Bellevue community college of Washington state. Both are small to mid-size schools.
