Like it or not, anything that is providing an individual with a form of income needs to be shared for the benefit of the country. It literally brings forth the idea that nothing is free in this world. Even a small home-based business needs to pay taxes to the government.
But there are also many tax advantages involved in home business. Here is a guide to home based business and taxes that may be involved.
The first thing any business owner, whether it is a small home based business or a large business, is to locate a good accountant. If you don't already have one, ask other people you know who have a business for a referral or recommendation.
~Obtain a Tax Identification Number~
First of all you need to obtain a tax guide that is relevant to the country in which you reside. There is no point advising you what you should do unless you understand the individual tax requirements your government requests. Tax terms may also be given different names depending on your tax laws and your country.
For example, in Australia a person who is working and earning money must have an individual tax file number, and is distributed by the Australian Taxation Office. In the United States this is called a social security number and is distributed by the Internal Revenue Service.

~Investigate Tax Paying Situations~
Your local tax office may have different ways to pay tax depending on what your home business' revenue is. Some have quarterly statements that need to be filed, others have yearly tax contribution dates, and others allow you to Pay As You Go depending on earnings and expenditure.
~Safety Nets~
Some tax offices may have a safety net in place where you don't need to claim tax on your home business until it's profits reach a desired figure. For example, when you are doing crafts and selling them for profit, or doing a party plan business, they may be considered a hobby until they profit a certain amount of money.
