The 1000-calorie diet explained

are someone like me, who is middle aged, then the weight will be much slower to move. Hormones make it harder for me to lose weight these days and overall I am not as active as I used to be. Increasing activity helps but I still do not get as good results as someone younger. You will need to incorporate some activity into your life though. If you were to just sit all day doing nothing, consuming 1000 calories a day, you would probably not lose much weight, if any.

The best way to follow a 1000 calorie a day diet is to personalise it for you. Take into account your sex, age, any health conditions, lifestyle and likes and dislikes. There is no point in following a diet based on foods you dislike as you know you will fail. You should be able to work out the perfect diet combination of what goes into those 1000 calories and what exercise you will take. It is also best to check with your doctor before starting any long term weight loss plan

Finally please try and eat a sensible 1000 calories a day, if you are following this diet. In some ways, as long as you count your calories, you could eat junk and still lose weight. However the weight loss will be more significant if you cut down on fats and sugars, plus it is important to get the right balance of foodstuffs, vitamins and nutrients to stay healthy. Overall don't beat yourself up and give yourself time. If you can persevere with 1000 calories a day for a while you will lose weight but try not to stick to this low amount for too long.
