"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God." John 3:16-21 (NIV)

Is this "good news"?

That depends on what you love: a life in a corrupted world without the Light of God to find your way; or a life in this world illuminated by the Truth of God, found in the simplicity of Jesus Christ.

God has provided His way, through the gospel of Jesus Christ, to reconcile mankind with Himself. We could never reach heavenward toward God no matter what we achieved, so He came down to us instead, bringing some of that heaven with Him, through Jesus Christ. God sent his son into the world to die for our sins and then resurrected Him that we might have life, both here and in the here-after. Where we once stood on one side of a vast ravine, separated by God, who was far from us on the other side, He has made a bridge for us to reach Him. That bridge is Christ.

I would say that this is good news indeed!

(If you wanted to cross that bridge in the first place, that is.)

Is this good news for anyone hiding from God? Is this good news for those who already chose a god, and called it The World?

Probably not.

Is this good news for anyone in need of rescue, the unmerciful world just about doing them in?

Probably yes.

Lunacy for some. Deliverance for others.

Supposing the Christian gospels were the Truth, would welcoming the Truth be considered 'good news'?

I suppose the real answer to this question, on an individual basis, would depend on whether or not the 'good news', would cause us to lose something we value, or gain something we never had. And whether or not we could give up what we' value for what is truly valuable.

If the sacrifice of Jesus Christ for the atonement of our sins means very little, then perhaps we don't acknowledge our sins at all. If we play by the rules of this life and
