You can find different types of book reviews depending on where you look. Most major newspapers and magazines will have at least a few featured books in review each week. Major book stores will also have information in store especially when there is an author appearance. You can also find reviews online. Here is a list of some of the sites worth checking out:
www.nytimes.com - This is the New York Times website which includes not only reviews of books with information about the critics but also complete first chapters of the books.
www.booklistonline.com - Includes a review of the day and interviews with the authors. Has a great feature called "story behind the story" which gives information about the author and how they came to write their book. The "read-alikes" section is also worth a visit as it gives reviews on similar books or with something in common.
http://tls.timesonline.co.uk - The times literary supplement gives weekly book and literary reviews.
www.allreaders.com - Review given by the general public. You can also open an account and earn $5 for each review you submit.
http://books.guardian.co.uk - Includes online workshops for authors, a list of the best UK bookshops, information about authors, special reports and extracts from books.
www.booksense.com - One of the best features on this site is the "banned books week top ten booksense picks" which is compiled from nominations from member booksellers, each title having been banned or challenged in one or more American communities in recent years. I think this is an important feature as the freedom to read should be for everyone, everywhere.
www.bookwire.com - Includes book industry statistics and video clips of authors discussing their latest releases.
www.bookpage.com - "Americas book review" also contains author interviews. It does NOT review self-published books, print on demand or books from presses that lack major distribution. It also does NOT review poetry books.
www.buildingrainbows.com - reviews by the general public. Children and student reviews.
www.lulu.com - self-published books reviewed by other authors (members of lulu.com).
These are just a few examples but you can easily find more by searching book reviews in any search engine. You can find reviews done by professional reviewers and experts or by the general public, a lot will depend on the type of book you are interested in.
