Wal-Mart has stepped to the front of the line when it comes to pharmacy's. With it's widely unknown four dollar prescription program, Wal-Mart is giving its consumers a wide range of generic medications for only four dollars. There are about 300 generic forms of medication available at the four dollar price that treats a wide range of health issues from depression to anxiety as well as cardiac meds.
The program not only is a huge benefit for the uninsured but also to many people who have insurances that require a co-pay. An example would be the prescription Trazodone 100MG tablet, with a co-pay you are still paying ten dollars, with the Wal-Mart four dollar prescription program you are paying just four dollars. The savings is huge for uninsured as well as insured. The four dollar price covers up to a 30 day supply on many of the prescriptions available in the program.
The drugs covered by the program treat common conditions like allergies, cholesterol, high blood pressure and diabetes. In some cases, the company said, customers could save more than 60 percent over typical generic drug costs. The lower prices will be available to the insured and the uninsured. So in plain terms, any one is able to use the four dollar prescription program. The best way to use this program is to print the list of the generic medications available in the program and discuss with your doctor if the generic form of the medication would be suitable for your condition.
CVS does not have a program that is similar and I think is still charging too much for the same drugs Wal-Mart is now charging four dollars for. The non generic drug pricing at both pharmacies are relatively comparative, however I think you may find Wal-Mart still being some what cheaper in the long run. I also find that the over the counter drugs and vitamins that are offered at Wal-Mart to be less expensive then CVS. Besides the convenience of being able to shop for groceries and house hold products as well as getting your prescriptions, I find Wal-Mart to be the better choice of the two.
