ORIGIN & HISTORY: The name comes from the Germanic hrod (fame) beraht (bright). The Normans were said to have introduced the name to Britan sometime before the Fourteenth Century.

POPULARITY: Though the name has always been a common one it has decreased dramatically in popularity over the past ten years, dropping from a ranking of 23rd most popular boy name in 1996 to a meager 47th on the list in the year 2006.
