As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints or as known by our nick-name "Mormon". If your idea of being a Christian is someone who believes exactly the same way that you do...then...I am not a "Christian". But if your definition of a Christian is someone who believes in Jesus Christ. Then I am a Christian. I choose the latter definition. Therefore I consider myself a Christian. The name of our church has Christ's name in it!
Some of those who say that we are not Christian would say that we are not because for some strange reason our Christ is not the same Christ that they worship. I don't know how that can be, because he is the same Christ that was in the Garden of Gethsemane and the same Christ that died on the Cross. If our Christ is not the same as your Christ, then why is it the same between other "Christian" religions that disagree on important doctrinal tenants with your "Christian" religion?
Some have argued that because we do not believe in the Trinity that it does not make us Christian. That has nothing to do with whether or not we believe in Jesus Christ. Other people have said that we are not "Christian" because of one doctrinal difference or another - but it's not necessarily the doctrine that determines weather you are a Christian or not. If it was then no "Christian" religion could consider any other religion a Christian - thereby nullifying the meaning anyway.
The bottom line is this - if any two different religions can consider each-other Christian based on their belief in Christ alone. Then members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints are Christians as well.
If you are going to nit-pick at doctrine to determine who is Christian - I would dare say that Christ is the final authority on that.
