Why do mega breweries like Miller insist on attempting to come up with the next great variety of beer? Miller Chill falls into the category of the experimental beer that makes me say they should have thought this one through first.
The concept of Miller Chill seems to be inspired by the Corona-style Mexican beers: a light, pilsner style beer with an infusion of lime and salt. Yes, I said salt. Now while adding a lime to a Corona or similar beer can really enhance the flavor, the forced combination of the lime and salt in Miller Chill just doesn't work. The flavor of the beer is somewhat covered by the salty citrus mixture, leaving a mostly unpleasant taste.
I tried Miller Chill mostly from curiosity from a home brewer's perspective. I honestly can say I couldn't bring myself to make or serve this kind of beer for anyone. Again, I'm not against the idea of fruit added to beer of this type. My stance is to have the fruit flavor (lime, lemon, etc) added once the beer is served. The Belgians seem to have the best grasp on how to incorporate fruit into the brewing process - their brewing styles successfully add fruit like cherry, blueberry and raspberry. Of course, that is a topic for another article.
Miller, you get points for effort but you need to scrap this one - have a Corona and lime and go back to the drawing board.
