I've been told we always manage to do
Exactly what we want to.
It may take some time and energy to execute
But it will be accomplished, without dispute.
We are driven by our priority list.
For some its money, a house, or even a kiss.
A wild adventure, a trip, or a cruise,
A great career, to read a good book, or even
to watch the nightly news.
Sometimes it's people who are top on our list.
Our loved ones, our friends, neighbors, or
colleagues, we just can't miss.
Any sacrifice for them we will afford,
And in so doing, we feel like we've gotten a
a great reward.
Life is short, and we cannot put everything
at the top.
And where to cut the list- well, who knows
where to stop?
If it's important to us, we will make the time,
To make it happen, so we'll feel just fine.
The question comes to all, as if to provoke
Do our priorities leave out some meaningful folks?
Do we overlook those whom we should?
And omit doing the little things that we could?
Is our list so long and broad that it excludes
Time for ourselves and reflective interludes?
Are we so rushed in our prioritizing,
That we miss the beautiful sunsets and sun risings?
Can we add love and beauty to our priority list,
And know that God's blessings are ours to enlist?
Can we take time to walk, listen and pray?
Are we able to appreciate each God-given day?
Things are important, and tasks to accomplish,
But one day we will wake up, and question.
"Has all the bustle been worth the while"
Or must I re-prioritize my list, adding at the top
of the list - a smile?"
