Questions to ask yourself before you start a home business

MUST have a presence there even if it's just a simple website, no more than an electronic business card. Spend a small amount on your own domain name (one that links to your business and is easy to remember) then use a simple site-writing package. With a bit of practice, you can set up your own site in a couple of hours.

YOUR PLACE OF WORK

Can you do this from home?

By definition, a home business is normally run from home. But will you do all the work from there, or will you need to move out and about? If you are making those business lunches, you will need to deliver them. Do you have the right transport for that?

Will you need more space?

If your home business is as a writer, then you just need room for a computer and a printer. A spare room would do, or even the corner of the kitchen or dining room, to start with.
