Teens views: My life without a boyfriend

by Rachel Simpson

Created on: December 28, 2007

Though I'm technically not a teenager anymore, I was one in the not-so-distant past. I never had a boyfriend in middle and high school, and I am still currently unattached. A lot of people around me my age or younger have boyfriends, and I know that they secretly think that something must be wrong with me for not having a boyfriend. There's nothing worse than when people in public with their significant others look at you like they pity you for being by yourself. It annoys me that they have nothing better to do but feel sorry for me when I see no reason to feel sorry for myself. Maybe this is because I have never have a boyfriend and don't seek one. You can't miss what you never had, I suppose.

My life as a teenage girl had its issues, but all in all, it was a lot of fun. I stayed active with sports, concert and marching band all school year. Marching band lasted throughout the duration of the football season, and concert band took place during the winter and spring months. In a typical day, I would be up early in the morning so I could catch the bus. I'd be in homeroom at about 7:30, and start classes shortly after. Since my school employed block scheduling-where there are only 4 classes per diem, but they are twice as long as a normal period class-you would have 2 classes in the morning, 3rd block class was broken up in some way or another so people could go to lunch, and then 4th block was the last period of the day. I don't know which was longer to get through: the first or second half of the day. I think it depended on what classes you had when. Either way, I was always happy to get to lunch, where my friends and I would be free to discuss something ridiculous or I would make a bee line to the library to do some homework assignment that was due the next block. Heck, sometimes I would spend time in the library during lunch to find books to read. Lunchtime was the only time I could attend to this long time hobby. When the school day was finally over, I would have band practice for an hour before making my way to a sports practice thereafter. If it wasn't a band day, I would be in some corner of the library or classroom trying to get some homework done. Either way, at around 3, I was at sports practice. I was on the volleyball team in the fall and the track team in the spring. Evenings were mostly spent at home, where I would be studying for some test, wrapping up projects, writing papers or doing some other form of homework. Friday nights were my busiest
