The greatest gift to give a 10-year-old girl is the gift of time. To sit and listen to her, to be fully present with her and hear what she is saying. We live in a society where having an actual face to face conversation is becoming obsolete. Thanks to email, i-pods in the ear, and the best anti Christ of communication, text messaging. Instead of typing your conversation...play a game of cards, go for a drive, bake something. You don't have to spend money on this gift. Just have a conversation with her. Sure, she may be talking about the new episode of Hannah Montana or talking about how her sister annoyed her that day, but at least she knows you are listening. Ask her questions about the new episode, ask her why her sister annoyed her. We live in a society where both parents work, or children are being raised in a single parent household. When there is a 10-year-old girl in either household, she is yearning for someone to listen to her. She seeks an ear that will hear her. The next time you sit down with a 10-year-old girl, whether it be your daughter, sister, niece, Goddaughter, whatever the relation, give her the greatest gift that she won't be able to return, break or loan to a friend...well, you may just start a new trend and she can always come back for more....give her the gift of your time. Now, as far as a monetary gift, our ten year old daughter is a huge fan of the Jonas Brothers and Hannah Montana, (yes...she does talk about the latest episode)so, we allow her to watch a few episodes per day. She listens to the new Jonas Brothers CD a lot and draws while doing so. My final thought on the great gifts for 10-year-old girls? Time and music..........without each, where would the world be? Timeless and a world without true sound.
