WEIGHT LOSS ITEMS

- The biggest offender is anything weight loss related! Unless you specifically, absolutely know they want a new exercise machine, work-out tape, or diet cookbook, don't even step into this area. Even if you think they want it, these are gifts best avoided. Really, unless the girlfriend in question is a professional body builder or fitness trainer, avoid these items.

- Almost any women will take any weight loss gift from her boyfriend as a sign that you think she is too fat. Even if it is just muscle building objects, that'll mean she is too scrawny. Whatever the theme, it means she is in some way ugly to you. This can easily lead down a nasty road.

ITEMS IN RING-SIZED JEWELRY BOX

- Anything that comes in a jewelry box that even slightly resembles a ring box better contain an engagement ring. If a marriage proposal is not the objective, never give anything that comes in a traditional ring-sized jewelry box. The moments before the recipient sees what's inside can lead to many problems, expectations, fears, and misunderstandings.

- If the gift is a ring, just not an engagement ring, make sure to present it in a container drastically different from the traditional velvet ring box. Also make sure not to be anywhere near the kneeling position when giving the gift.

TICKETS TO EVENTS NOT LIKED

- Amazing how many men think a great gift for their girlfriend is an extra ticket to some event only the guy is interested in. If your girlfriend loves basketball and you got a pair of tickets for front row seats, great.

- If they hate a certain band and you got a pair of tickets for front row seats, duh. Going to an event they don't like is not a treat, it's usually an aggravation.
