Museum reviews: The Centre Georges Pompidou (Beaubourg), Paris, France

Pompidou Center-an important cultural center in "plateau Beaubourg"-this was the main purpose of the center. The decision of creating such a center came to the then French President Georges Pompidou in 1969. An international call to tender was announced and the project of Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers was accepted. Building began in April 1972 and the center was opened by Giscard d`Estaing on the 31st January 1977. The building "an urban machine" (the more often description of the center), occupies an area of one hundred meters square. Each external pipeline is painted a different color. This is very interesting because each color corresponds to a different function. For instance:blue corresponds to the air-conditioning plant, yellow- the electrical installation, red-the circulation and green-the water circuits.

The National Museum of Modern Art occupies the top three floors of the Pompidou Center. Near the Baaubourg, the original, colorful and amusing fountain by Tinguely, the kinetic sculptor belonging to the Nouveau Realism group, officially formed in Paris on the 27th October 1960.
There is a perfect link between the Center Georges Pompidou (often called a temple of modern art ) and the Louvre (a temple of ancient art) and this link is the most beautiful museum in Europe: d`Orsey Museum.
