Gloating Too Soon
I truly did believe
In a gloating sort of way
That the man I left
Would miss me
When I finally went away.
How foolish of me not to see
That mostly what he saw in me
Was all the stuff he got for free.
I've been replaced by the local folks
Who are surely glad I left;
The economy is booming
Since he's single once again.
His clothes go to the laundry
Where they wash, dry, and fold.
His meals are taken with his friends
At a restaurant down the road.
The maid will come in once a week
To clean his muck and mire
Someone even writes his checks,
Which he only has to sign.
So the gloating didn't last long
And it wasn't nice of me,
But I gladly leave him to those folks
Who willingly do anything
Cash on delivery.
