Whether you have known him for years or you just started dating him, women may often ask themselves how to know if he really loves you. It may be hard to come up with a definitive list of how to tell when your man loves you. There are hundreds of signs, but unfortunately, most of them can be faked by ill-intended cads with any number of ulterior motives. The ideal is to spot the ones that he probably would not or could not fake. As a married man of twelve years, let me share some of my favorite signs that a man really loves a woman:

- He shows that you come first. If he quickly get off of the phone when his best friend calls to talk about last night's game, just because he's alone with you, he's probably in love with you.

- When he comes straight home after work to because he wants alone time with you, instead of going to a company get together, he's probably in love with you.

- When brings cards and flowers for no reason whatsoever, even though you know he's the type who forgets his mother's birthday until the night before, he's probably in love with you.

- When he refers to you as, "The love of my life" to someone else, when you're sure he doesn't know you're listening, he is probably in love with you.

- He does things with you that only you like and he actually tries to make the best of it. When you take a man shopping for shoes, linen or curtains and he actually starts picking out designs that he thinks you would like, he's probably in love with you.

- When you look like a total mess, and he tells you that you're his queen and actually makes you feel like one, mess and all, he's probably in love with you.

- If he works more overtime so that he can pay to get your car fixed, without your ever having told him it needed fixing, he's probably in love with you.

- Is he wearing slacks more often, rather than his ratty old jeans? Is he reading self-improvement books, like "The Peaceful Warrior" when he used to only read the sports section? Is he ordering salad instead of fried mozzarella sticks? When you ask him about it, he says that you inspire him to work on himself. When he tries to be a better man, because he thinks you deserve the best, he is probably in love with you.

There are no sure fire answers in life, and especially not when it comes to love, but if many of the things that you see with your eyes match the things that you feel in your heart, you probably are well on you way to being secure in knowing that the man you love really loves you.
