Poetry: Challenges of love

Love is the rain.
A light haze settling on tropical skin,
Gently soaking through clothing
Leaving a clammy,
Hot aftermath.

Love is the rain.
A torrent of monsoon,
Sweeping through the rainforest
Creating rivulets of tide,
Carrying nourishment.

Love is the rain.
The smell of damp earth on summer's nights,
Tapping on the ground in time
To cricket-song,
Evaporating before morning.

Love is the rain.
A cool shower drenching an autumn evening,
Moisturising dry leaves.
Running to the edge and falling,
Leaving a sludge underfoot.

Love is the rain.
The fine dew on winter grass,
Cool droplets in the air
Turning to icicles,
Chilling and solidifying.

Love is the rain.
Falling in a torrent,
Filling the river
Bursting her banks,
Carrying debris to the sea.

Love will sweep you up and carry you.
Floating away downstream,
To the waterfall
Hurtling headlong towards the rocks,
Love will drag you down into the icy depths.

Love will bob you to the surface.
Hold you steady and float you
Towards the fertile ground.
Love will wash you clean,
And you will swim.

    And wait
    Time stops
    And I wonder why
    I'm
