Simple eloquent compliments always work. But, be honest with yourself and your date. If your not a romantic type person making romantic, mushy comments later will bite you in the you know where.
Subtle greetings, polite non-political discussions are a safe bet. Personally, I liked meeting on first dates for things like lunch breaks. It keeps it short, simple and sweet. This prevents you from saying anything stupid. Always worked for me.
Some ideas that may or may not work for you:
What kind of movies do you like?
Where would you like to eat?
What do you think of the weather?
Your looking lovely this evening.
You look awesome.
I love the what you have done with your hair.
I love the color of your eyes.
That outfit looks great on you.
That color brings out your eyes.
That is one sexy dress.
Your an amazing person.
I think your beautiful/handsome.
I love your eyes.
Is that your smile or did heaven just light up?
I find you very appealing.
I can only hope your as beautiful on the inside as on the outside.
Whatever you do, don't try too hard or act too desperate. If you haven't dated in like 18 months act like this is your ninth date in a week. Play the part of a confident dater, not an overly aggressive, obsessed with finding true love dater.
Always remember this statement.
KISS:
Keep
It
Simple
Stupid
Now get out there and good luck.
