Gone are those days when men are always respected to make a living all by himself and provide for his family.Taking a look at our society today,it is not an uncommon sight to see married men idling away ,even in Africa. The reason is not far fetched-unemployment.Wives are fast becoming bread winners in world societies today .Women are now seen sweating out and working hard round the clock just to make their families survive.
The issue of househusbands has been received with mixed-feelings characterized by both excitement and uncertainty.
.Excitement because it would be of tremendous help for working women who have house husbands to contend with. There would also be some level of uncertainty as being a house husband could be frustrating to the parties involved as it is only natural that once in a while ,either of them gets his or her feather a bit ruffled due to misunderstandings that might likely arise.
It is quite dis-heartening to know that the misunderstandings could become magnified and may eventually nlead to dissolution of a once blissful marriage.
Men naturally want to protect their egos, they want to be in charge of every affairs at home and it is naturally expected that some men would not want their friends to see them doing the house chores when they ought at be at work,or somewhere making money. This is one of the main challenges of house-husbands.Apart from this, some women do see house husbands as weaklings who they can manipulate whenever it suit them to do so.These women are always rest assured that their husbands cannot stop them from doing whatever they want to do because they are the ones providing for him and the rest of the family.Moreoever a househusband's confidence in himself will naturally fade away after sometimes in his present situation.
Due to the challenges faced by many house-husbands in recent times, a huge percentage of them have resorted to dubious and dangerous ways of making a living to help themselves out of their situation. In Africa for instance, over 40% of robbery cases are committed by men who cannot feed their wifes and families ,and out of this percentage,80% of them have working class wives who do some petty tradings or hawking just to keep the children alive and pay their school fees.
House husbands certainly are not having the best of times, especially in Africa. It indeed will take a patient, caring, understanding and loving wife to see such men through their experiences. It is natural for the wife to feel bad once a while, but it hurts the man more.
Not that these house husbands deliberately found themselves in this position, some lost their jobs whiles some got themselves into being a family man without preparing for it {especially in Africa}.When a young man impregnated a woman in Africa for instance,he would be forced to live with his pregnant partner wether he is gainfully employed or not. This situation will put pressure on both the man and the woman and they do whatever they can to make money and settle down as husband and wife.
