Toddlers love to help create Christmas crafts. The reward of time well spent is the pride on their face and the gleam in their eyes when they have finished a holiday craft.
Below are four quick and easy Christmas crafts to make with your toddler: A Rudolph Refrigerator Magnet, A Rudolph candy cane ornament, and a hand-print wreath.
Create a Rudolph Refrigerator Magnet by gathering the following supplies: Wooden clothes pins with a spring, google eyes, brown pipe cleaners, small red pom-poms, white paint, and a small magnet.
Allow your toddler to help paint the clothes pin white. Be sure to wear an old paint shirt.
Touch up any unpainted areas when your toddler finishes painting.
Once the clothes pin has dried glue google eyes near the top of the clothes pin. Wrap a brown pipe cleaner once around the clothes pin and form antlers. Glue the antlers in place. Glue the small red pom-pom below the eyes for Rudolph's red nose. Glue a small magnet to the back of Rudolph.
The Rudolph clip is then ready to be used on the refrigerator to hold other Christmas crafts and pictures. The magnet clip can be used year round for holding your toddlers pictures and crafts.
Create a Rudolph candy cane ornament in just minutes. Create several with which to decorate your tree, accessorize packages, or give as gifts.
To create a candy-cane Rudolph you will need: candy canes, google eyes, brown pipe cleaners, small red pom-poms, thin red package ribbon, and a pair of scissors.
Allow your toddler to glue eyes and nose on the exterior crook of the candy cane. Allow room for antlers to be wrapped around the curve. Wrap a brown pipe cleaner around the curve. Allow your toddler to shape Rudolph's antlers. About inch from the candy cane's curve, tie a red package ribbon. You will have to tie the ribbon, and then use the edge of scissors to curl it.
Once the eyes and nose are dry, the candy cane Rudolph is ready to hang on the tree.
Another easy Christmas craft is a wreath to hang on an interior door. For this project you will need green construction paper, scissors, thin red package ribbon, bow-tie pasta, and red paint.
Ensure your toddler is wearing a painting shirt and help her paint several bow-tie pasta red. While the bow-tie pasta dries. Trace your toddlers hand on the green construction paper. Fold the paper into quarters to cut out four hands at one time. You will need at least 12 copies of your toddlers' hand on cut from green construction paper.
Draw a circle to help your toddler arrange the hands, fingers pointing, in a wreath-like figure. Once you are both satisfied with the shape, glue the hands together to form a wreath. Glue the bow-tie pasta around the wreath to add interest. Tie and glue a piece of thin red package ribbon to the bottom of the ribbon. Curl the ribbon to make an ornate bow.
If you are pressed for time, an easy holiday craft for your toddler is to paint a precut, pre-hung ornament. These ornaments can be purchased for a few cents at your local craft store. Cover your toddler's clothes with a painting shirt. Prepare two or three colors of tempera paint. It is a good idea for toddlers to have a different color brush with each color of paint.
Allow your toddler to paint the ornaments with little direction and a lot of supervision. Remember, the important thing is to enjoy time with your child. The object isn't to create a perfect ornament.
Time spent creating crafts, ornaments, and decorations with your toddler allow him to explore his imagination and abilities. The craft will become a keepsake.
