One of the most important decorating jobs you can ever do is that of decorating for a baby. Youngsters are so impressionable, so your decorating job may very well set the tone for certain aspects of the rest of their lives. Things such as how they view the world, how appropriate or inappropriate they feel it is for others to present their homes and themselves the way they do, and their artistic sense. You could almost say that what they see is what they'll be, and the environment they'll see the most to begin their life is their room.
To start off with, you'll have to decide whether you want to decorate the room according to the child's gender or in a more unisex fashion. If you plan on using the room for other babies after this one, then unisex is probably the way to go. Once you decide the gender question, then begin your research by buying books and hitting the World Wide Web. The Better Homes and Gardens website is definitely a good place to start your research. Some of the furniture (if you're pregnant, it's probably not a good idea that you be the one moving the furniture) you'll be looking to acquire includes: crib, crib accessories, wall hangings, lamps, curtains, bedding, wallpaper (or paint [pregnant women and paint fumes probably don't mix, so check with your doctor before going this route]), changing table, dresser, and rocking chair.
What they see is what you'll get as far as what kind of man or woman your baby will turn out to be as a result of their bedroom decor. It's certainly not the dominant determining factor, but it is a factor in determining how your little bundle of joy will view the world as he or she grows up, so keep that in mind when decorating the environment he or she will be developing in, because how you do could have more impact on them than you might think.
