Short stories: Funny pet stories

Misty is my brothers cat. She has been a member of his family for the last seven years. As such, she has learned how to handle him and his wife. My brother does not have any children. So, his entire reason for being is to assist his family and his job.

He loves Misty as a father would love a child. In essence, Misty is his child. My brother works as a male nurse in a very large hospital He has a routine and he very much never strays from the norm. Misty learned his routine very soon after she became a member of the household. She knew he would leave for work around 10pm each night and return around 8am each morning. She knew that after he came home each morning, he would usually be there about an hour then he would leave again for a second job. Once the second job was finished, he would return home and stay for an hour then off to a third job. The third job only took a couple of hours and he would be back home, eat, go to sleep and up again late evening to get ready for the hospital.

A few years ago, he had to have surgery. He was off work for about eight weeks. Being that he has had such a busy pace for so long, it was hard for him to vary from the normal busy routine. As soon as he was able, he was up and piddling around. He found that he had to do something so he began to take long walks in the morning. He would usually walk to my mothers house and stay there for a while then return home. Misty evidently did not like him going off on foot as she was used to him driving off each morning at a certain time.

This particular morning she must have been upset and decided that she would do something to prevent his leaving on foot. She waited for him to come out of the house and then she tried to prevent him from leaving. She laid down in front of him as he walked and demanded that he rub her stomach. He often did this as he left each morning. This particular morning she made sure he did it several times. Since that would not or did not prevent him from leaving, she decided to tell his wife that he was leaving. As he walked off, she went to the front door of the house and literally knocked on the door. When my sister-in-law came to the door, Misty ran to the sidewalk and looked in the direction my brother had gone. My sister-in-law was not sure what she was doing so she disregarded her actions. As she walked back into the house Misty knocked on the door a second time. My sister-in-law came out again and looked. Misty was staring again in the direction my brother walked away. She then began to meow. My sister-in-law realized what Misty was doing. Misty was telling on my brother. She was in essence telling his wife that he left, which way he went and she wanted her to do something about it.

My sister-in-law called my mothers house. Asked if my brother was there. And then told him to come home because Misty was upset with him leaving.

Misty rules the house. She on another occasion decided that my brother was not placing all of her food in her dish each morning. When my sister-in-law feeds her, she has no problem. When my brother feeds her, she always slaps his hand for him to open it, turn it over so she can see if he has any of her food remaining. As long as there is none, she begins to eat. If she sees any, she looks up at him and he has to brush the remaining food into her dish. While she watches, he brushes the remaining food into her dish and then she eats.

My brother loves this cat. He enjoys telling me of Misty's antics and each day he awaits my call to see what Misty has done that day.
