Divorce and the break down of a family is always a tragedy and the announcement from Randy and Paula White about their impending divorce is no exception. Divorce is a private matter, but when you live a public celebrity lifestyle, as Randy and Paula White did, the rules change.

They're not as famous as movie stars but their lifestyle was luxurious and flamboyant. Together they established a church and satellite ministries based in Tampa Florida. Owners of a private jet, a million dollar home and real estate properties, they lived the life of celebrities to the max, even using cosmetic surgery to enhance their appearance.

The congregation is not as newsworthy as the pastors themselves, but one who left the ministry staff a few years ago, expressed his opinion of the couple calling them, "prophets for profit." Other members of the congregation tell stories of fraud and being bilked out of money.

Randy and Paula White preached the prosperity gospel that emphasizes money and material gain for tithing. The prosperity gospel says the more you give (to the church), the more you'll get back in financial blessings.

This marriage is the second for both Randy and Paula White who've been married for 18 years. They indicated that infidelity was not an issue in the divorce.

Paula White recently formed a partnership with another ministry located in San Antonio, Texas. She purchased a home near there even before the divorce was made public. The split in the ministry offers clues about their divorce.

Paula White achieved more fame and made numerous appearances around the globe, she had her own TV show and wrote a number of books that brought in even more revenue. She was said to be the star and the drawing power of the Without Walls ministry that she and Randy White established back in 1991.

My initial reaction is that the divorce resembles the break-up of a corporation. A recent audit lists their intake at 39 million dollars for 2006. Paula White is under Senate investigation and perhaps it is prudent to divvy up the fortune at this time.

My second reaction is that Paula outgrew her need for Randy and the Without Walls ministry and is branching out to build her own personal empire. Her partnership with another ministry is curious because it excluded Randy even before the divorce was officially announced.

Randy White in his statement on the divorce took full responsibility for the breakup of the marriage. He gave no details about what caused the failed marriage, but said that Paula would continue to preach around the world while he intended to remain in Tampa looking after his church and concentrating on being a dad.

"This has been an ongoing process and journey." Paula White said that she intends to keep Tampa as her base, but she has already purchased a home near San Antonio where she has partnered with another ministry called Family Praise.

Larry King interviewed Paula White recently. She danced around the topic of her divorce saying there was no one defining reason for the break-up. I find that curious. If I was getting a divorce I would surely be able to define the reason, as would almost any person.

Paula White counts Donald Trump as one of her supporters in her expertise of conducting conferences and her smart charismatic syle in speaking engagements.

My own conclusion is that it has become advantageous to break up the financial corporation at this time and divorce is the vehicle of choice. I understand that sounds harsh but looking at it from a distance gives it that appearance. I could be wrong and hope that I am.
