While boycotting college football in general is a bit strong, the BCS is just a ridiculous argument for artificially crowning a Big College School as a champion, regardless of record.

Take for instance, this year's upcoming game. We're constantly told that the BCS correctly picks which teams are supposed to be in the "National Championship Game" by this ranking system devised by the commissioner of the Southeastern Conference that gives weight to polls as a means of deciding who's the best in college football.

This year, LSU (10-2) versus Ohio State (11-1). What a joke! There is an undefeated team, Hawaii (12-0), that is given some other competition (Georgia, 10-2) rather than being the best by completing their schedule unblemished.

Ohio State is a joke for the national championship because their opponents, Michigan (to Appalachian State), Iowa (to Northern Iowa), and Minnesota (to North Dakota State) all lost to I-AA (Championship Subdivision) teams.

Louisiana State lost to two teams, Kentucky and Arkansas, who finished with 7-5 and 8-4 records.

National Championship should be Hawaii (12-0) vs. Kansas (11-1).

The whole story of the BCS is that the body of merit (i.e. the perfection of winning the entire schedule of games), doesn't count unless you have won for many, many years. So teams like Boise State from last year (13-0, beat Oklahoma on the Statue of Liberty play), can't be as good this year because they weren't good in 1957. Heck, South Florida has only been in existence for fifteen years. Where does that logic hold?

The point is that it doesn't. In the eleven years since the BCS was initiated, there have been five undefeated teams that did not make the 'National Championship Game', (Tulane, Marshall, Utah, Boise State, Hawaii). That gives the BCS at the best a 68% grade in determining the true National Champion.

The BCS is a fraud.

The reaction of the big schools is one of Jim Mora, ten years ago, when he was asked about the Indianapolis Colts' chances for making the playoffs only seven games into the season. "Playoffs?!? Playoffs?!? Are you kidding me? Playoffs?!? We have to win a friggin' game!"

There are 31 bowl games, which could be set in a 16-8-4-2-1 game format, meaning the field is reduced to 32 teams; 12 automatic bids (Yes, the Independents are a conference), Five runner-up bids (for conferences with tournament games), and 15 at-large, sorted by record.

This, a five week venture, would make for a true national championship.
