Guide to New Year's Eve events in Las Vegas

by Ted Sherman

Created on: December 23, 2007

We just returned home from our fourth and final Las Vegas visit of 2007. We had a great time, and in our opinion, every night is New Year's Eve in Sin City. All within just a few glittering blocks of each other on the famed Strip are world-class restaurants, Broadway shows, America's hottest singles clubs and super-luxury hotels. It's all happening night and day, and the scene is unmatched anywhere else in the world at any time of the year.

Just for instance, doings in Las Vegas for this coming December 31st and into the wee hours of January 1st, here are just a very, very few of the highlights. Be aware, it won't be cheap, and remember the famous slogan: Whatever happens to your money in Vegas, it stays in Vegas.

The Las Vegas Strip: This is a free show for those who want to join the celebrating crowds on Las Vegas Boulevard. This year's theme is "The Best is Yet to Come", but is pitched to older folks who enjoy music of the past. Along the street will be recorded music of familiar big bands of the 40s and 50s, and Vegas classic singers of the past, including Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Jr., Dean Martin and others. A spectacular fireworks display will shoot out into the air from the tops of major hotels. It all free, but be warned. That's the last of it for your New Year's Eve celebration.

Fremont Street Experience: This is usually free every night for tourists to walk and gawk at the enormous light, sound and picture show above their heads. However, for New Year's Eve only, a four-block portion of the downtown street will be fenced off for those who are willing to pay $60 to see a big show Featuring the Doobie Brothers and the Bangles.

The Luxor: You can walk like an Egyptian in this posh hotel resort shaped like a pyramid at the LAX Nightclub. There you will be hosted in person by Paris and Nicky Hilton for the night's revelries. If you have to ask the price of tickets, you can't afford it. They list from $250 to $20,000. Ye gads! I don't what extras there are for the high price, but maybe it can get you to participate in Paris' next naughty video.

Treasure Island: This is where a very enjoyable free show happens every night out front where a pirate man-o-war attacks a ship full of nearly naked babes. So, who needs to go inside to the Tangerine Lounge and Nightclub and pay $100 to $1,950 to see, of all the world's untalented yutzes, Kevin Federline as MC and disc jockey? If you're real lucky, he won't sing.

Caesars Palace: This Roman-styled resort has a special
