Short stories: A geography mystery

read your mind, and want to grant your wishes."

"So, why did you say that Philo was the cause, not the aliens?"

"The General agreed that it would be less embarrassing to charge Philo than to blame it on aliens. We've been over all this before."

"I know, but I still don't get it. So, what will happen to Philo?"

"I'm going to let the president tell you about that. But don't worry," his father said, reassuringly.

On the return flight in the Air Force plane, Jinx was quiet as he read the documents he had received at the ceremony. His medal of bravery was accompanied by a presidential decree.

"In that Philo, a special dog who has served his country bravely, and is currently charged with a crime against his country, I do hereby grant a pardon of all past crimes in the matter of."

The burner strangely being fired at such an inopportune time
The pilot not being in the balloon when the wind hit
Jinx knowing how to fly a balloon and land it without incident, though he'd never seen a balloon, before that day
The aliens were the only possible explanation, but it was so improbable, it became the only logical explanation

"Jinx, quit talking to that dog," his mother said, "and come eat your dinner."
