Short stories: A geography mystery

"Huh? The Adventures of Jinx and Philo"
[this story is formatted to meet marketplace guidelines]

Suspects:

Jinx - a twelve-year-old boy, whose father is a scientist, and Jinx, with his dog, Philo, and his neighbor, Eddy, all went I into space, accidentally, last year.

Philo Jinx's dog, who is big, mixed breed, was named Philo because his coloring makes him look like baked philo dough, and who loves Jinx, very much. Jinx talks to Philo, and Philo "talks," to Jinx, which is a constant irritation for Jinx's mother.

Eddy Jinx's neighbor, who also lives on a farm in Kansas, and is Jinx's friend, but not his favorite friend, because he gets Jinx in trouble, frequently.

Alexandra Nicknamed Alex, and is Jinx's new girlfriend, but she doesn't know it, or acts like she doesn't know that he likes her; Jinx isn't quite sure how to tell her, but he thinks she is very pretty and sweet.

Aliens From Alpha Centauri, who Jinx and Philo met when there.

Jinx's father A genius, scientist, who built a star ship in the silo of their Kansas farm. He consults to Los Alamos Labs and NASA, along with universities, and does freelance experiments...once with the results of sending Jinx and Philo into space and through time.

"Eddy," Jinx said when his friend answered the phone, "My Dad is taking us to the International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque, NM. You want to go with us?"

"To New Mexico? I don't think I can. I think you have to have a passport to leave America," Eddy said.

"New Mexico is in America," Jinx said, a bit irritated that Eddy wasn't interested in learning about things like this.

"Then why is it in Mexico?" Eddy asked.

"Do you want to go or not?"

"Sure, but I have to ask permission." This was a new Eddy. Before they went into space, Eddy would have said, "Yes," and then thought, later, about getting permission.

"Call me back with an answer. We're leaving tomorrow," Jinx said. He was closing his cell phone as he heard Eddy ask, "Tomorrow?"

The phone rang, immediately. "Hello, Alex," Jinx said.

"Hi, Jinx. My family is going on vacation, and I have to do all my schoolwork for the next week, this weekend, and I was hoping you might help me with the math, maybe, please."

"Sure," Jinx said, trying not to sound too excited. "Want me to come over to your house?"

"Do you mind?" Alexandra asked. "I know it's asking a lot."

"No, I don't mind. I will be there in twenty minutes. "Where are you going on vacation?"

"To Albuquerque, or Albah Turkey, something like that, somewhere
