This holiday season come the 26th of December there will be women all over the world swashed into ill fitting underwear in a design and a color which they are not keen on. Why? Because the men in their lives thought that they would purchase them some sexy garments for their own titillation.

Now there is nothing wrong with this, in-fact there can be allot right with it but only if certain considerations are taken into account. Use the following tips to guide you when choosing lingerie for your lady to be sure that what you buy will be worn more than just the once and then pushed to the back of a draw.

1. Get the size right. There is no point in purchasing lingerie in the wrong size as it just will not fit. You also risk upsetting your lady which ever direction size wise you slip up on.

To find out the right size have a look at the labels on garments which she already has which she wears regularly. Some items in her draw may not actually be her definite size as we ladies often keep items to slim into or to grow into. We are practical, or at least wishful thinking in this way. A garment which she wears often will show you not only her correct size but remind you of her personal taste too.

If you cant possibly rummage through her lingerie, excuse the pun, and peeking at her underwear whilst drying on the line is a no no then make sure that you get a receipt for what you purchase so that she can change it for the correct size if needs be.

2. If you have never seen your lady in bright red or black then chances are that these colors are not to her taste. If you are not sure then you could find an excuse to discuss her likes and dislikes of color so that you can make an informed choice when choosing the color of lingerie.

3. If you feel awkward hanging around the lingerie section in a store by yourself then ask a female assistant for help. They can advise you on what women like and what female shoppers like to buy themselves.

They can also help prevent you from feeling embarrassed amongst all of that feminine satin and lace.

4. There are several different styles in lingerie. One is old fashioned and dowdy. Think Bridget Jone's big pants in her first movie. These are insulting, although comfortable, and should only be purchased privately by a woman for herself.

Then there are special body shaping types of under-wear. Again, only women should buy these for themselves. Try not to buy these by accident or she will be very offended as these items are designed to flatten out lumps and bumps which you are not supposed to have noticed.

Next is the smutty lingerie. This has its place, but not as a sophisticated present. This sort of lingerie is best purchased by a couple who find it fun to shop together for these items to enhance their love making.

Finally there is the right type of underwear for a present to a lady. This is generally made of a luxurious material such as satin or silk. It is sexy, but not cheap looking. It is seductive, but doesn't shout, 'come and get me then leave the money on the sideboard'. You get the picture!

There is something very alluring about a man who can choose lingerie for a woman correctly. It takes an observant and thoughtful man to do this with style. But when a man chooses incorrectly it has the opposite effect.

There-fore my final piece of advice is, if in doubt buy her a bottle of her favorite perfume or a beautiful silk scarf instead.
