When considering whether or not there is such a thing as a three-day diet, one must first determine, exactly, what a diet is. By definition a diet is characterized in terms of the quality, composition, and affects specified foods have on one's physical health. Specifically, we must consider (1) what type of food is a person consuming, i.e., fruits, vegetables, proteins, starches, or candy . . . (2) whether the food is raw, cooked, organic, dried, or liquid . . . and, finally, (3) why the person consumes said food. Is it for weight loss? Is it for weight gain? Is it because of some other medical condition? For example, certain people cannot consume solid foods, and are consequently, placed on a liquid diet. In any event, diet foods, by definition, are "habitually provided or partaken of". By virtue of the fact that nothing can ascend to a level of habitualism inside of a three-day period, this definition nullifies the argument that any such monster known as a three-day diet, truly exists. Diets are sustained, purposeful activities. People who diet have goals specific to said diet. I am not a physician or a dietician for that matter, but I have dieted. It has been my experience that it takes the body a substantial amount of time to respond to changes in diet. I highly doubt that any such three-day effort would produce any measurable results. Therefore, I strongly suggest that these three-day stints be recognized for what they are: binges, refrainments, fasts, and yes, vacations.
