Not that there is anything wrong with posting things on MySpace, or in some cases YouTube and Facebook, but weighing the pro's and cons should be a priority on your list to do it carefully. These websites are public, and we post very personal items on there knowing that. It seems that we forget that small detail more often that we should. While wanting to present our best side, sometimes this is not always the best way. MySpace is almost like marketing yourself. You are essentially selling your image, your words, your ideas, basically yourself directly to the public.

But what is wrong with this, really? That all depends on what you write about yourself on your page. It is basically up to you to decide how others will perceive you. Lying to or about yourself on these sites is not good for your image. many people have Myspace pages to catch up, or interact with friends and family that they either seldom, or don't have time to see. This is a great opportunity to keep informed of the latest goings ons of your friends and such. sure, it is meant to be private, or personal, but if it is on the web, it is up for anyone to see.

My personal experience with MySpace and YouTube have been pretty positive. The things that I have watched on YouTube have been choice viewing on my part, so I can't comment on the negative aspect of it. I do, however have a MySpace account, something that I balked about before finally giving in to it. I have many friends that live out of state, and my youngest sister lives in Alaska, so it is definitely for correspondence reasons. Believe it or not, my page has few exaggerations on it. I don't know what the general consensus about my page is, but it is not embarrassing to me, nor is it gaudy.

Some people, however, do not enjoy telling the truth and like to misrepresent themselves, as well as others. And some people, while forgetting the whole world is able to see, are quite obscene. Case in point, several of the people that I work with have such accounts. Knowing what type of workers they are, and then seeing what type of pages they have, I can tell who is more reliable on the job. If people fill out their general information, and they tend to lie, that is a sign that they may do the same on the job.

A woman that I work with lies about her occupation, her salary, and the type of person that she is. Now, knowing her for about three years, I find it hard to believe that she has the guts to display such information about herself. Don't
