What is the first thing that I think of when I hear the name Elvis? Well, honestly, I think of Las Vegas and the many Elvis Presley impersonators and fans that there are, especially in the United States. And, that's when it hits me - I hardly know anyone who has the name Elvis. Therefore, I have decided to look up some information on the name Elvis and to inform you of my findings by writing this article.

The name Elvis is of Scandinavian descent and its meaning is "all wise." The name is believed to have been derived from the surname Elwes, but it is derived from the Old English Alviss, since a stressed "a" often becomes an "e" - thus Alvis becomes Elvis.

The name has a few variations, six of them being Alvis, Alvys, Elvio, Elviss, Elvo and Elvys.

The name Elvis experienced a surge of popularity in the 1950s, as may have been expected since Elvis Presley made it a household name. Before Elvis Presley made the name a household name, Elvis Jacob Stahr, Jr., a former US Administrator, born 1916, deceased 1998, had the name

Some other famous people with the name Elvis are/have been:

Random information about the name Elvis includes that on the latest SSA list, Elvis has been number 761. Also, the name Elvis ranks eight in the top ten names for a pet dog in Britain, according to a recent study. The Finnish name for Calvin and Hobbes is Paavo ja Elvis, Elvis being the tiger.

Other things which have the name Elvis are: a 1956 and a 1973 Elvis Presley album; a 1968 NBC Television Special also known as Elvis Presley '68 Comeback Special; a 2005 CBS mini-series; a comic strip; a free text editor; a member of the Maian alien race in the video game Perfect Dark; a helicopter (Erickson S-64 Air Crane Helitanker used in Australia); and a member of the four Devas in the video game God Hand.

Some songs which have the name Elvis in them are: Bringing Out Elvis - Faith Hill, Calling Elvis - Dire Straits, Elvis Alpha, Elvis - Big Head Todd and the Monsters, Elvis Presley and America - U2, Elvis Presley Blues - Jimmy Buffett , Jesus and Elvis - Garnet Rogers

In conclusion, Elvis is a name of many surprises. At first associated with Presley, it has proven to be quite an experience for me to find out so much about the name.
