As the proud mother of a beautiful daughter, I can by relating my shopping experience for Christmas through the years act as a helpful guide to new mothers. We had a baby! Bassinets, embroidered sheets and pillowcases, crib toys far away from baby yet appearing close enough to make baby try to reach for them. Baby rattles made in the USA. Nothing too soft and gushy that baby could suckle on and accidentally choke. A baby blanket. Oh my that baby blanket bought for the infant and still secretely hidden under the gorgeous adult's pillow. Balls, big balls, nothing too small as they can be a danger. Large talking dolls, too big for baby to drag, but motion and sound activated.
The infant reaches one and she walks on her birthday, Surprise! The fun begins with tricycles, strollers that zoom across the living room and the dining room but stay out of the kitchen. Too many accidents happen there.
Pull string toys that play music, sing the alphabet, talk in complete sentences. Soft books that play when squeezed. Big books to read to baby on one's lap. Thick crayons and lots of pictures to trace and fill in.
Baby is now a budding star and needs her own car, of course, a large car that she can get in herself and zoom using her feet as pedals. A not so funny experience was when Baby had a smart car that she could zoom in by actually sitting in the car and using her feet as gas pedals. She went outside and down two blocks, and made a right and turned back up and made a left and I scoured the neighborhood and have not been sane since.
We live and learn, and so does the Baby, bicycles, sleek, sharp and a new one each year to keep up with her growth.
I guess what it looks like is that I controlled what Baby got as gifts and even those given at her festive birthday parties and Christmas especially from doting godmothers were usually supervised by me. I never thought that I had to explain to baby whatI bought. I guess I was overprotective. A helpful blog that I write is found at http://growingup-duchess.blogs pot.com/
