Ever hear of Mortal Kombat? Heather Trujillo (age 16) and her boyfriend Lamar Roberts (age 17) decided that it would be fun to "practice Mortal Kombat moves" on Heather's 7-year-old sister, Zoe. Experiencing a blunt force trauma to her head, Zoe died. Heather told police that she punched Zoe "in the stomach, karate chopped her lower arms, punched and pinched the victim's thighs, kicked her in the shins, slapped her stomach and buttocks and poked at the victim's chest."

Trujillo and Roberts must have been preparing themselves for the day they would have to face off in a Moral Kombat style fight when the world as we know it would be taken over by evil forces unless Trujillo and Roberts put their Mortal Kombat skills to the test. Or, perhaps, Trujillo and Roberts are the evil forces. Or, maybe, just maybe, they are complete idiots. Whatever the case, a seven-year-old girl is dead and these two teenagers admit to killing her, albeit and "accident."

Do you blame the video game? I know when someone is shot, there are a group of people who blame the gun. I've never heard anyone say that they were going to blame the knife manufacturer when a knife is the murder weapon. Is the video game to blame? I'm going to say no. Trujillo and Roberts are to blame. If it wasn't Mortal Kombat they would blame WWE Wrestling or the movie Jackass. They'd surely blame someone or something other than themselves, as if they were the victims here. A girl is dead because of their actions.

Think of it this way. If they would have killed someone their own age, you might be able to say it was an accident. This was a seven-year-old that they were beating. This was no accident. It was stupidity. It was irresponsible. It was wreckless.

Trujillo and Roberts are being held on $100,000 bail each, and are being charged as adults. They could get forty-eight years in prison for their senseless actions. Perhaps while they are in jail, someone will take the initiative and do unto them what they did to that little girl. It is the season of giving and I personally could not think of a better gift for the two of them.

Oh, yes, they should be tried as adults.
