How to fight high energy bills in the summer

So you have resolved to fight high energy bills in the summer? You are looking for ways to do it and want tips on how to chop hundreds of dollars from your energy bills. It is easier said than done for you will have to stay focused and fight doggedly to win. Initial savings may not be easily visible but will you see some significant results after some time. Let us now see how to fight high energy bills.

There are actually three aspects or strategies to the fight. Firstly, you need to have all members of your family in your team. Secondly, you need to be ready to make some initial investments quite like investing in start-up capital for a business. Thirdly, you should be ready to change your energy guzzling habits. Let us now look at the strategies or aspects in greater detail

1. You need to have all members of your family in your team
Remember you cannot fight this battle alone. You need to have all the members of your family cooperating with you to reduce the energy bill. For example you cannot be trying to reduce energy bill while your children leave the lights on when they leave the room or leave the television on when they leave the house. Also, you may want everybody to work in one room rather than having everybody working from their own room with lights, fan, airconditioning, television, computers, iPods, all working together.

So the first step in your fight is to get everybody on your side. Everybody must realize that what is being done is for the greater good and they also need to chip in with their own bit. Make them feel that they are achieving something and they should be proud to have got a chance to participate in this opportunity. They can be spokesperson of this project in their class, school, and college or amongst friends, as appropriate. Once they latch on, half your battle is done.

2. Investment to buy energy efficient gadgets and appliances
This is one critical aspect of your battle. Energy efficiency has become a buzzword only recently. Even 10 years back there wasn't so much focus on this subject. So the foremost thing for you to do is to replace electronic gadgets that are more than ten years old. Refrigerator, air-conditioner, washer-dryer, dish-water etc. are all possible candidates.

While buying new ones remember to buy those with a high energy star rating. The higher ones are supposed to be easy on your energy bill and are a sure way of cutting down on a large bill. Energy star rated products are supposed to cut about 20% of your energy
