As a mom I have had umbrella stroller in my vocabulary for the past four years. The only thing is, I never used them. I received two of them from my mother and my mother in law after my first daughter was born in 2003. They seemed like a cool idea as they were lightweight and easy to put in and out of the car rather than the bulky stroller that came with the car seat we bought before the baby was born. But my problem with it was that when I put the baby in it, it did not seem safe or strong enough. I had this terrible feeling that it was going to collapse at any minute.

Everyone must understand one thing though, my first daughter was born two months premature and weighed only six and a half pounds when I was able to bring her home from the hospital. I was very cautious with everything that I did with her. Also, being a first time mom I was a little on the nervous side to begin with. But, needless to say I did not use the umbrella stroller with my second daughter either who was born in 2005. It could have been the fall out from my first experiences or just the fact that a solid, larger stroller just seemed more safe to begin with and therefore become my daughters form of transportation whenever I took them out before they learned how to walk on their own.

I have had plenty of mom friends who love the umbrella stroller and will swear by it even for their unruly two year olds. I on the other hand will stick with the larger one. But with the lightweight design of most umbrella strollers and the ease of getting them from one place to another I am sure that they will always be a part of the family scene when it comes to transporting little ones from one place to another.
