Take it from someone who has always had trouble finding a place she belongs when it comes to society. Friends are sacred... Friends are people you always want beside you no matter what. You want them with you through the hard times and the good. Some may think the more friends you have the better, but sometimes it's best to stick with the small groups of friends. Some may not see why, and I admit there are a good number of large groups that do fine. But there are always chances a number of things can go wrong.
For instance...
If one of your friends doesn't like someone else... While this can happen in a small group of friends, it's far less likely. In a big group of friends, you may be forcing enemies to meet head on. Smaller groups of friends tend to always know each other, because you always hang out in that small group.
Another bad situation can come from birthday parties, sleep overs, gatherings... In a small group, you pretty much have the chance of inviting everyone and never leaving someone left out. In a big group, you're most likely going to have to pick and choose who. And this can lead to your friends feeling betrayed... It does not feel good...
Small groups have a better tendency of making up quicker during a fight. Most times they don't want to side with just one person and try to stay out of an argument or try to do their best to cool it down... In big groups, there's always to be those people who feel obligated to stand up... Which in turn makes others. This can lead to a large break up of the group. It can be even worse if some of the group already doesn't like someone else. Then it just becomes a screaming match...
I would stick to small groups. Even though, in all honesty, I do not even have that anymore... I am a longer, but when I have friends, the smaller the group the better... But that's just my opinion, you're free to make your own.
