I think I may be dating myself a little when I say this but I remember the "big hair" bands of the 1980's like Poison, Quiet Riot, Def Leopard and more. They were all well known for being trouble makers with partying and trashing hotel rooms and doing drugs. They were known for sleeping with their fans and going all out for the "bad boy" image. Even further back in the 60's and 70's, the musicians of that time were well known for partying and doing drugs but gave us some really great music.
Here we are at the end of 2007 and we are trying to act like we are perfect as we criticize Britney Spears for the daily posting on all the celebrity magazines concerning her partying, her sex life and more. Don't get me wrong, I am at the grocery line with the rest of the world buying the magazines and continuing to be amazed at how much press Britney really gets. Even though nine times out of ten the article does not portray her in a flattering light but we are still saying her name and buying the magazines that run these articles. Is that not one of the most ingenious marketing ploys of the present day? We do not forget Britney do we? She has managed to get to 25 and still be in the limelight after 10 years of being in the business? I think she has done something good along the way. I know another thing that continues to amaze me is how much money she still has and continues to have in her bank accounts. Is someone who does nothing but party and do drugs and such going to keep the money for long? Probably not but she and her "name" make her money every day. No matter what she is doing.
My biggest problem with Britney is the fact that she now has two small children who are photographed constantly looking unhappy and scared as the paparazzi swarm mom constantly. I know of several other celebrities who have had children and have managed to keep them out of the cameras eye. I know it cannot help the mental state of those kids. Of course when Kevin Federline supposedly has the children, do we see them in the magazines? No, he manages to keep them on a normal schedule and out of the public eye. No matter what I have thought of Kevin the past I have to say he has made the better choices when it comes to the children during all this mess. Either he has advisor's who actually have a head on their shoulders and care about the welfare of the kids or he has a little common sense under his "rapper" exterior.
All in all in an answer to the question "Who cares", it seems we do. If we did not buy Britney's music or the magazines, or her other products like her perfume line she would fade into the background and only show up on one of those "Where are they now" shows, am I wrong?

I'll be honest...I have never been a "Britney fan". But I think I really disliked her after her "Not a Girl, Not yet a Woman"
