Before we cry to our bleeding heart liberal candidates we must notice something. Something that is hard to except but easy to understand.
I am a veteran of the war in Iraq and have treated many different Iraqis (as a combat medic) that were the victims of torture. It is gruesome, painful, even to look at and seemingly senseless. However, right now, somewhere in the world, there are people being tortured. Unfortunately, it does not matter if we all stop torturing people simultaneously here in America, there will still be the same amount of torture in the world. If you really think that the fascist regimes in Africa, the Middle East, South America, and Asia are going to stop torturing people to there ends just because America isn't, you are very naive.
Thus we are tying are hands while making no difference to the peace of the world. It would be the same as if we destroyed our nuclear weapons, because we do not feel that we would like to use them.
I am not saying we HAVE TO use torture, but we are much more formidable in this, a time of war, if we are not as compassionate to our enemies as we have been. There will be a day when peace will reign, life will spring eternal, and love will be the world currency, but that day is not today and don't hold your breath for the foreseeable future.
