Reflections: Guatamala seeks to close foreign adoptions

This is a real touchy subject.

On one hand, I would like all children to be given the best chance at being the best they can be. On the other hand, if you are taking children from a nation, you are taking there future from them. Children are our best resource.

Guatemala needs to make changes to keep people in there country. Even if they are able to pass legislation to keep people in there country, this will only make people take more drastic measures to get out of the country, especially with children. The most horrible outcome of this event is very alike what happened with China in the early 90's. I am talking about human trafficking. This problem is more rampant than anyone likes to believe and this is the kind of situation that brings about such an event about.

Foreign adoptions are not a bad thing, as far as most nations go. However, there are bad things for both the giver and the receiver. As I mentioned above, the hope for a brighter future for there home nation is gone, completely, even if they are to return to there old country when they become older, odds are capital will soon drive them elsewhere. As for the reciever this is a bit touchy. The overwhelming majority of foreign adopted children go to the very rich and thus take resources from native born children. While I think everyone deserves an equal chance, I would not like it to be my kid who is beaten out of a scholarship/job by another child who was not a naturalized citizen.
