We excitedly went through the bags, all the while I kept raving about what a great Christmas I could now have, all because of the great Christmas bonus I had received from work! My Christmas bonus from work was actually only $50.00, but the look of relief and excitement on her face, and the warm feeling that I got from that look was the real bonus that I received from my work monies that year.
Usually my Christmas involves my visiting with the people I love Christmas Eve, I hop in the old vehicle and drive around visiting till I either have one more drink than I should have, or I figure out that wherever I am at the moment feels so good at that I am going to camp out there for the evening. Luckily, I have wonderful friends who all seem to have a special spot reserved just for me. Two of these Christmas's past have had my wanderings find me on the doorstop of someone who was not handling the season too well. That is where I stayed.
A favorite of mine is envelopes of lottery tickets, enclosed in Christmas cards, and sent anonymously through the mail. Taking excited children away for the day so a busy mom can relax and recoup (this one seems to happen quite often). Offering up gifts of baked goods to those who are low income or too busy to bake.
For a business person who was getting far too stressed! The present was the gift of relaxation: The present itself was a large box that is fully decorated, a hole in the shape of a circle is cut in one corner, and from it protrudes this fellow's favorite beer. On the outside of the box is an open card that reads: Follow these directions or be forever haunted by the ghosts of Christmas's past! 1. Put beer in fridge or freezer to cool. 2. When you are absolutely DONE working for the day, remove beer from fridge or freezer, and open it. 3. Ahhhhhhhh starting to relax now, sit down in your favorite chair, and open present. Inside the box are thirteen wrapped presents of various sizes and shapes. He loves Dairy Queen Dilly bars, three of these gifts are gift certificates for a single Dilly bar, total cost $1.85. He is a very kind hearted person and so has wound up owning five cats, mostly strays who have wound up on his doorstep, and who he has adopted. One gift is a kitty fishing pole, a two foot fishing rod with a toy mouse attatched to the end of a reasonably long fishing line, cost $1.00 at the local dollar store.
