Should employers be allowed to use MySpace, YouTube and Facebook accounts as a basis for hiring or firing employees?

The whole purpose of MySpace and the like is for social interaction. Allowing employers to decide your employment fate based on your social life is wrong. I mean if the Internet was not around what would they do; spy on you at parties or other social events to see if you are the right person for the job. It's ridiculous to base someone's employment on their social life. Job security should be based on a person's ability to get the job done and not on your personal life. Just because someone has pirates or vampires on their background doesn't mean they shouldn't be allowed to teach, or work in any other field. Everyone has different interests and I don't believe anyone is going to make a social page about their job.
I do think that personal life and business life should not mix. Say you have a blog on one of these many pages about your dreams and personal thoughts, should your job depend on whether or not your boss agrees with your views? I think that is unethical. A person's social life should not effect their employment or educational life.
I mean what's next, is you boss going to come to your house and do an evaluation and if they don't like what they see you get fired or lose the chance of getting hired? Where does it end? This is a clear violation of privacy.
