Smoking is a personal choice. It is your business if you want to destroy your own lungs and your own health - and ultimately, your own life. But to subject those around you to the same fate is not only rude and selfish, but unethical as well. Smoking in public places, while it may be enjoyable for the smoker, makes everyone else near miserable.

Cigarette smoke has it's own distinct smell. Everybody has been in a restaurant where the table behind them is smothered in a cloud of cigarette smoke. Eventually, that horrid smell will drift over, poisoning the taste of your food, your lungs, and your once enjoyable evening. For those allergic to cigarette smoke, it is pure torture. We cough and cough, feeling our throats closing as we grope around for our inhaler, until eventually we must excuse ourselves to go out side for a breath of fresh air, only to be met by even more smokers. Cigarette smoke is the smell of death, it would ruin any body's appetite.

The effect public smoking has on our children must also be considered. What kind of impressions are we giving them? They will grow up believing that smoking is okay, cool even, when research shows us again and again that the effects of smoking can only be harmful.

Respect towards others should practiced, and smoking should be done only in the privacy of your own home.
