Risk is a board game of "global domination" that has captivated many board game players for many years. Risk is one of the classic game's of it's genre that has preceded several similar type games both online and via traditional board and dice. Risk can also be played online via network with the Risk II CD software or online download. Up to 6 players can play this game and the average game can last about 3-5 hours, with the lengthier games being attributed to volume and experience of players. This article will outline this game in terms of the "Risk Experience", game components, and key strategies.

I: THE RISK GAME EXPERIENCE

The game of Risk begins with a distribution of cards allocating global territory to its players. The players then attempt to consolidate their land holdings by grouping together their territories through play. This initial process of the game can last several rounds and is followed by a secondary phase in which players attempt to gain the territory of other players. It is in this second phase in which the opponents find themselves in simulated battle with plastic pieces and dice rolls. Sometimes even the most trivial of elements in this game may take on meaning. For example, the color of one's army or how one spins the dice. These cursory factors are really somewhat inconclusive to the actual outcome of the game but is interesting to watch when other players consider them as having influence on their game.

II: RISK GAME COMPONENTS AND OBJECTIVE

Risk is comprised of the following three components in addition to several important rules that can affect one's chances of success with the game. In the case of the online version of the game, everything is done via mouse clicks and internet connection. Risk II can be downloaded from a number of websites by typing risk II into a search engine toolbar.

After successfully defeating an opposing army and at the end of a turn a player can retrieve a risk card. A match of three of kind or three different symbols yields a redemption at the beginning of the player's next turn. Eventually, only one Risk player will remain, this player will be the victor.
