After having thirteen years of first hand experience of drug misuse and constantly researching drugs from the very start of my habit, which I kicked a few years back, I feel that I have built up enough knowledge and experience to be able to advise on the effects, dangers and giveaway signs of such substance abuse. I had always been against drugs and was a well behaved person but a case of unrequited love had started to make my life miserable. I started my habit at the age of seventeen by beginning to use cannabis. I never had any intention at all of trying any other drug or progressing to the next level in consumption, but years later found myself at the intensely tight grip of crack cocaine. Starting with (probably) the most severe drug first, I will try to explain here the methods used for taking each drug, the effects of each drug, the dangers of each drug and the signs to look out for should you believe that a loved one may be using. Please note that giveaway signs for the use of drugs should be used as a rule of thumb and there should also be other clues that have led you to the suspicion in the first place. Repeated wrongful allegations of drug misuse over a long period of time can actually induce the suspect into using drugs to escape the false interrogation, so please be careful.

Drug: Heroin / Smack / Gear / Skag

Heroin is a chemical known as diamorphine, which is derived from morphine. It comes from the middle eastern opium poppy and therefore contains opiates. The drug can be smoked by placing the power on a foil sheet then being heated up and breathed in through a straw-like instrument, known as chasing the dragon. When heated up the powder turns into an oil-like liquid which then slowly evaporates into smoke. The drug can also be injected directly into the bloodstream, which has an extremely high risk potential. The term 'smacked out' refers to when a user is under the influence and has become so relaxed, feeling safe and secure and warm inside and they are so comfortable that they can barely open their eyes. It is a well known fact that heroin is cut (mixed) with substances such as paracetamol and brick dust which quickly clog up the veins and arteries. When injecting, the drug is therefore sucked into a hypodermic needle being filtered usually through the filter from a cigarette. The drug causes extreme damage to the entire body. Giveaway signs are a very bad memory, people will often forget what you said to them by the next day. They may also
